We are selling our Corolla as wife needs of a bigger car for growing grandkids!
The Corolla was a replacement for our much loved Wide Body Camry written off in a rear- ender! An inattentive driver (most likely on the phone!) drove straight into the rear and twisted the frame rails beyond repair – well beyond what their insurer was willing to pay!
So we borrowed our lovely neighbours Corolla while we sorted the Camry claim. She is in her late 70’s and this is a 2 owner car – 3 if you have the interest! Driven to church and to shops and picking up friends for the movies!
In time we bought the Corolla as our neighbour had just bought a new car! My wife has since driven it to work daily and to shopping and picking up grandkids! She is not a petrolhead but a petrolheads wife so she can drive well – RAC Gold membership says it all!! She has done 8000km roughly. About $40 a fortnight in fuel.
Note this is my car of choice when needing to just duck out and pick something up from the shops – it is a fun car to drive!
So I set to work on the Corolla tidying it up and changing the oil and filters etc.
The car was in good condition for its age and mileage and the interior is still like new!
So here are the actions I took on the car:
Replaced air filter with a new Corolla K&N Filter($90) and the Hiclone($175new). These both helped the little 1600 breathe more easily and upped the engine response at low revs, plus improved fuel consumption. This filter needs cleaning in about 80000 km from current odometer reading of 183000. Gets around 9L/100km around town!
Changed the oil and oil filter ( Ryco 7900) every 6 months and treated the engine to Extralube zx1 friction modifier ($70) during the first oil change. This is good for 40000km. Oil was a high quality Penrite Oil.
A new battery was fitted 1st of October 2017 bought from Autobahn. $130
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
There are no known engine oil leaks or water leaks in the radiator. All fluids are checked every fortnight; water and oil or monthly; brake fluid, transmission. Tyres checked every month pressures maintained at 33-34PSI.
Transmission is a 4 speed automatic with the 4th as an overdrive. Transmission received a transmission fluid treatment in the first month after purchase.
The cars interior is like new! This is no exaggeration (see photos) – a dashmat ($90)was purchased and fitted in the first month and all surfaces are cleaned with a McGuires interior cleaner and conditioner. Seat covers are wool, warm in winter & cool in summer! Floor mats are installed.
A 4 speaker, Pioneer CD FM AM Radio was fitted after purchase. (MP3 WAV etc)
Window tinting is in excellent condition and supports cool airconditioning.
A child safety seat anchor is supplied in the rear hatch so a baby seat can be fitted.
Rear seat is split fold for bigger cargo!
Rear cargo area has drop down cover in faultless condition!
Remote Central locking and government approved immobilizer are installed. Multiple keys and 2 remotes.
EXTERIOR PAINT AND TRIM
The paint is showing its age and there are a couple of minor dings on the bumpers.
The car has been cut and polished to best affect and some minor paint repair would improve overall appearance but would increase sale price too much so leaving that option to the new owner!
This car has been reliable and cheap to run.
Tyres – front 40% wear, rears 10% wear.
We have spent $500 on upgrades and performance treatments.
Values on the market are $1000 to $4990 depending on spec and mileage. Carsguide
